This course aims to provide the basic knowledge about commonly used antimicrobial drugs in pharmacy practice.
Also, it aims to investigate and measure the pharmacological activity of a new or chemical or undefined substances
as well as the determination of their relative strength in comparison to standard drugs, and providing students with
the basic techniques to be used in these investigations.Pharmacology I (PO311)
This course aims to study the action of drugs on biological systems and the effect of the latter on the action
of drugs. The course focuses on the interactions that occur between a living organism and chemicals that
affect normal or abnormal biochemical functions. The students will encompasses basic drug composition
and properties, synthesis and drug design, molecular and cellular mechanisms, organ-systems mechanisms,
signal transduction-cellular communication, as well as toxicology, therapy, and medical applications.Pharmacology II (PO312)
The aims of the module are to provide deeper knowledge about commonly used drugs affecting different biological systems and their implications in therapy of diseases and health promotion. It also aims to understand the commonly used safe drugs regarding their adverse effects, contraindications and drug interactions, together with the applied aspects of the pharmacological actions of the major drug groups used in medicine in order to enable them to utilize therapeutic agents in a rational and responsible manner in the treatment of patients.
Bioassay and Biostatistics (PO411)
This course aims to investigate and measure the pharmacological activity of new or chemical undefined substances as well as determination of their relative strength in comparison to standard drugs. Students will learn the principles of qualitative and quantitative analysis and the suitable techniques to be used in the investigation.
Toxicology and First Aid (PO422/PO531/PO421)
The aims of the course are to
Provide the pharmacologic and clinical knowledge about some commonly occurring toxicological problems affecting different body systems and their implications in health promotion.
Enable students to understand the methods of diagnosis and management of common toxicological cases, injuries and emergency medical problems.
Clinical Pharmacology and Drug Interaction (PO512/PO412)
The aims of the course are to provide the Pharmacologic and clinical knowledge about some commonly occurring clinical problems affecting different body systems and their implications in health promotion. To enable students to understand the safe use of drugs as regards adverse effects, contraindications and drug interactions.
