Statistics (SGS116n)

The aim of this course is to introduce to students the types of statistics, population versus sample, the central tendency measures (mean, median, and mode), and measurements of dispersion (range, variance, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation) and to give students basic knowledge of principals of research design, some standard probability distributions; types of variables, sampling distribution and random samples, sample size and estimation of population parameters. The course also trains students to implement the experimental design, statistical hypotheses and put them to the test, implement tests of significance, and perform analysis of variance as well as regression and correlation to biological studies.
